Todays discussion with Kate followed was about composing the wording for an exhibition. Each exhibitor will need a short write-up about the work that will be on show.
This may include titles of the work or just a simple guide to what the work is about and perhaps a little about the artist themselves.
I have compiled a short piece about some of the artists for my Impossible Exhibition. the exact wording may be different in the power point, but will be similar and easily transferrable to a simple handout or programme for the exhibition.
Industrial works Mill Scene, Our Town, Street Scene, and Industrial Scene are all depictions of working-class life in the manufacturing districts of the northwest of England by L. S. Lowry. Known for his urban landscapes his tiny painted human figures going about their daily life surrounded by factories and mills are often referred to as ‘matchstick men’.
Sid Kirkham was a much-loved local artist of Stoke on Trent having similar industrial elements to his work as Lowry. His water colours of the local landscape with monochrome smoky street scenes and bottle ovens are strengthened by the colourful characters who complete the narrative.
Michael Kenna has travelled the world over, photographing some of the most beautiful places on earth; but it is the power stations of northern England and Scotland on display today. His signature style of subjects bathed in ethereal light and dark shadows on black and white images fit perfectly with the exhibition.
HS2 and Forest Fires by Claire Heath are two of her ceramic artworks highlighting the devastation caused by forest fires in Australia and the ancient tree loss and deforestation of important historical sites for the construction of HS2 [high speed train]
47 by Alison Berrow is a photographic work highlighting the remaining forty-seven bottle ovens from the lost ceramic industrial past of Stoke on Trent. Each bottle oven was unique to it’s factory and are now grade II listed buildings.
I realise that the presentation or pitch for an exhibition is an actual task, and even though ours was fantasy I can see that extensive work goes into making it a reality.
I managed to produce a mock-up of an exhibition leaflet, which might still need a little tweaking, but I got into it and thought it was quite a good exercise in the end!

I was hoping to put together mock-ups for merchandise, posters and press release as Kate had given us some paperwork from Masquerade to look at, but I had completed the presentation by this time and had to get on to completion of other work for Novus 23.
